Recieving a Grant

Mission Support Fund grants are usually allocated where a parish is requiring financial support for at least three to five years to “seed” a project for the future.

The general criteria for a Mission and Service Grant are:

  • The project for which the application is made is broadly within the priorities set by the Synod for the particular period.
  • Generally projects funded seek to establish a base from which ongoing work may be sustained.
  • Grants generally tend to extend for a limited time period (three to five years) to allow funds to be available for new projects.
  • The project has the approval of the Presbytery (the appropriate Presbytery being the one with the oversight role for the applicant). This ensures that the project is broadly consistent with the Presbytery strategy.

Projects and activities dependent in whole or in part on the Mission Support Fund submit detailed financial statements annually for the previous year and projections for the ensuing years on the appropriate application forms.

Representatives from Presbyteries and functional areas within the Synod meet annually in July. They decide which projects should be recommended to the Synod meeting for support in the following year.
