There are currently two award programs available for churches who are taking actions to become environmentally friendly or are considering doing so: the Five Leaf Eco-Awards and the 'ASSISI' (A Strategic, Systems-based Integrated Sustainability Initiative) Awards. These two awards programs offer different methods of achieving the same aim - care for the environment and a reduction of the impact of our churches and congregations on it. The programs are very complimentary, and it is suggested that churches consider doing both.
ASSISI (A Strategic, Systems-based, Integrated Sustainability Initiative) constitutes the Australian Catholic Bishops' sustainability initiative. It is a new, ongoing, large-scale intervention developed by Catholic Earthcare. It provides a theological, spiritual and practical base for implementing Earthcare's ecological vision for Catholic schools, parishes and church communities, agencies and congregations. It is a useful model and a roadmap for the way to achieve ecological sustainability for the Catholic Church in Australia.

The Five Leaf Eco-Awards are an ecumenical church greening awards program supported by the Justice and International Mission (JIM) Unit of the Uniting Church in Australia Synod of Victoria and Tasmania.
