The General Secretary serves with the Moderator in offering leadership for the Synod.
The Uniting Church is ordered through a series of inter-related Councils to enable its members to live out effectively the good news of the Gospel in both word and deed.
The Synod is the council responsible for general oversight, direction and administration of the Church’s worship, witness and service within its bounds. It exercises pastoral, executive, administrative and disciplinary responsibilities in relation to the Presbyteries within its bounds, deals with matters referred to it from Presbyteries, and establishes and maintains such bodies as are appropriate to support the Church and for the development and exercise of the gifts of all its members. Through congregations, aged care facilities, schools and other outreach ministries within the Synod, the Church lives out its faithful discipleship of Jesus Christ.
The General Secretary serves as secretary of the meeting of the Synod and the meetings of the Synod Standing Committee and is expected to have a clear understanding of life within the Presbyteries throughout the Synod to ensure effective strategic planning and the best stewardship of resources.
